Together, We Can Change Their Story
DONKEY & EQUINE HAVEN USA
Together we can change their story.

Our Mission
Rescue. Rehabilitate. Re-home. With Heart.
Since 2009, Donkey & Equine Haven has been rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming abused, neglected, and abandoned equine animals. The Haven is completely volunteer-operated, and every cent donated by supporters goes directly to rescue and heal the bodies and souls entrusted to our care.
We take custody from physically infirm owners, families of decedents, and financially distressed owners who can no longer care for their animals. We provide refuge and care for equines obtained in law enforcement seizures/surrenders, and we rescue those who are abandoned to the slaughter pipeline. We do so without regard for age, health, or adoptability.
We fervently believe that every animal deserves a humane, healthy, and loving existence, and a compassionate end. Lack of capacity is the only reason an animal is turned away.
Who We Are
The Association for Donkey and Equine Haven, USA (the "Haven") is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization located in Celina, Texas. Our mission is the rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing of abandoned equines.
In 2009, the Haven's founder, Karla Vargas, recognized a need and took in her first donkey, Dixie. Since then, thousands of Donkeys and other equines have passed through our gates on their journeys to find forever homes.
The Haven is a place of physical, mental, and spiritual healing for equines in all stages of life and health. Many arrive here having endured harrowing and traumatizing experiences in the brutal auction pipeline, suffering from physical injuries, life-threatening lung infections, malnutrition, and bearing the immense burdens caused by years of abject neglect or mistreatment. None are turned away.
During their time here, our residents are supported by the generosity of donors and our dedicated volunteers.

Every donation goes directly toward the rescue and rehabilitation of Donkeys and other equines.
