ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS
The Haven exercises utmost care in rehoming members of our Herd. Placement of Donkeys requires an environment supportive of continued healing, proper medical care and nutrition, security and love.
Here are a few things to know before taking the next steps in your journey:
Donkeys are herd animals and they require companions, preferably one or more donkeys. Some of our donkeys at the Haven are deeply bonded with a companion and cannot be adopted without her/him/them.
Adopters must own the property where the donkey will live.
Adopters are required to live on the property where the donkeys will be homed.
Donkeys need a minimum of one acre, safely fenced. Multiple donkeys may require more space depending on certain other factors.
Donkeys are not waterproof. They must have continuous access to a permanent shelter with a roof and at least three sides to protect them from wind, rain, and winter weather.
Donkeys must have a constant source of clean, fresh water other than tanks/ponds, streams, or naturally occurring bodies of water, which can be a source of parasites, and freeze or evaporate.
Donkeys require regular vet checkups, farrier care, dental exams, and parasite control/deworming to live their healthiest, happiest lives.
Our adoption agreement requires adopters to return donkeys to the Haven if they are no longer able or willing to care for them.
The donation per animal ranges from $650-$1200. This is non-refundable and tax deductible.
If you meet these requirements, please take a couple of minutes to complete this
questionnaire and we will reach out to schedule your visit to meet our wonderful residents.
